Las Canteras
is a unique urban beach in Las Palmas city, Gran Canaria. Its citizens use each
of its 3,100m all throughout the year.
This beach is
not only a fully integrated urban beach in the city, but also offers
a full range of services such
as, security checkpoint, assistance, toilets, showers,
telephones, beach cleaning, sunbeds, boats...
It´s most curious
attractive is the natural barrier created by sand and sediment that runs along
2.000m to the beach and it’s a….wonderful place to go swimming. Locals call the natural
barrier "La Barra” and the bathers usually go swimming from
the coast of the beach to the natural barrier when La Barra has
emerged.
The
characteristics of the beach of Las Canteras allow users to combine the
swim with the sport. In one hand, the area protected by the
bar, is great to go with the whole family and enjoy a safe and
quiet room, and sports that do not affect other bathers, such
as swimming or diving, and on the other hand, opened sea area
called "La Cicer", where you can practice some sports, like football,
tennis or volleyball. In addition, many surfers go to La
Cicer because it has the best waves, some of the the World
Surfing Championship stage.
Also, the
beach of Las Canteras is a pleasant seafront avenue: sky, breezes and
views, ice cream shops, tapas bars and restaurants. This avenue
is the most common meeting point for locals and foreign
citizens who visit the city throughout the year.
Its seafront
avenue begins with the famous Alfredo Kraus Auditorium. It has 11 rooms and
one of them with 1.656 locations overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. It´s
name come from a famous canary tenor Alfredo Kraus, which has in his
honor a bronze statue of 8.45 m to about 80m from the
Auditorium.
